Alexandra Primary School

Case Study
The Organisation

Alexandra Primary School is a busy educational establishment that relies on a wide range of digital technologies to support learning, administration, safeguarding, and communications. Reliable network infrastructure is essential for the delivery of these services across the school.

The Challenge

The school’s DHCP and DNS services were operating from an ageing server that was approaching the end of its supported lifecycle. A review identified an opportunity to modernise the delivery of these services, reduce reliance on legacy infrastructure, and improve long-term supportability while ensuring continuity for connected devices and critical systems.

Our Approach

We deployed and configured a DrayTek VigorSwitch P2100 to host DHCP and DNS services. Existing DHCP reservations were migrated to the new platform and DNS services were updated to use LGFL DNS servers. Following implementation, comprehensive onsite testing was completed across wireless access points, printers, CCTV systems, and visitor management devices. Once service validation was complete, DHCP and DNS roles were disabled on the existing server while leaving the server available for ongoing operational use.

The Results

The migration was completed successfully with minimal disruption to the school. Critical systems remained fully operational throughout the project, and the school now benefits from a more streamlined and resilient network infrastructure. By moving essential network services to dedicated hardware, the organisation has improved manageability, reduced reliance on ageing server technology, and established a stronger foundation for future infrastructure planning.
